An Evening Walking Group in Ashdod

The social worker and the Ethiopian guide of the fathers program in Ashdod organized a walking group of Ethiopian fathers who participate in the program. The rational that guided the staff was that in Ethiopia the fathers were physically very active. They were walking very long distances and worked long hours in manual jobs. Since they came to Israel they stopped walking and do not exercise. It was decided that once a week all the fathers in the group will meet for two hours, one hour will be used for exercising and one hour for walking. This unique program began a few months ago and on the 31 of May a formal inauguration was celebrated in the presence of the deputy mayor, the head of the welfare department, their children and all the partners of this unique initiative. The proud fathers received a medal for their participation, T-shirts with the name of the group: “Adis Alem” which means “A New world”, and walking shoes (that were purchased by GCCD).
